Tinnitus Evaluation and Treatment
Tinnitus is the perception of sound such as ringing, buzzing, rushing, or humming in one or both ears. It can range from a minor background annoyance to something that disrupts sleep, concentration, and daily quality of life. If you are experiencing tinnitus, you are not alone, and you do not have to simply live with it. At ClearWorks, our tinnitus evaluation is solution-focused. We develop a plan specific to your symptoms, concerns, and daily impact. We also work closely with physical therapists and psychologists who can play an integral role in tinnitus treatment when appropriate, because the brain's response to tinnitus is central to how it is managed. ClearWorks Audiology in Sandy Springs offers comprehensive tinnitus evaluation and individualized treatment planning.
Tinnitus affects millions of Americans and can range from a mild background sound to something that disrupts sleep, concentration, and daily life. According to the American Tinnitus Association, tinnitus is one of the most common hearing conditions reported by adults.
Tinnitus and the brain
Tinnitus is not a sound your ears are producing. It is a signal your brain is generating. In most cases, hearing loss or noise exposure changes the input the brain receives, and the brain compensates by filling in the gap with its own noise. This is why a Brain & Hearing Evaluation is often part of the same conversation as tinnitus care, and why approaches that address the brain's response tend to produce better outcomes. For patients whose tinnitus is accompanied by sensitivity to sound, hyperacusis treatment is often part of the same conversation.
